Ghostscript has PDF compatibility for older PDF version (1.3, 1.4).

Ghostscript 9.52 has PDF 1.7 by default is compatibility is not specified.

Is it necessary to maintain compatibility for older version? Having a more recent verison of PDF permit to use more recent features.
